Matt Janning Living the NBA Lifestyle

June 17, 2010 – The past couple of weeks have been some of the busiest and most exciting in Matt Janning’s life.   With workouts for the Knicks and Suns last week, Oklahoma City today, and Dallas tomorrow, it’s been a whirlwind for the former Northeastern University star. A whirlwind that Matt reports he could not be enjoying more.

Janning, a 2010 NBA draft prospect, describes the process as truly a dream come true. He says, “Everybody who plays this game has dreams to someday play in the NBA. The fact that I’ve had the opportunity to show my skills to clubs with my goal just around the corner has been absolutely amazing.” He says he has truly enjoyed the process so far, savoring the chance to see different cities across the country as well as their greatly impressive facilities.

This time has not been without its challenges however. Janning describes the frequent travel as a “constant grind”, but recognizes that, “It’s just like in the NBA- they’re traveling to up to three cities some weeks. You just have to put your mind to it and get it done. All the work is definitely worth it.”

There have also been the challenges of the workouts. Janning describes competing against some of the best players in the country, in front of such important decision makers, as a little bit daunting, but even more exciting. The years under NU Head Coach Bill Coen have apparently prepared Matt extremely well for the rigors of such stiff competition though. He reports feeling completely physically prepared and supremely confident in his abilities.

One thing that has surprised Janning so far is the level of care shown to him by the teams. He has received one-on-one attention from some of the best in the world, learning greatly about his game and how to take it to the next level. They have also shown him generosity, including dinners and other perks. It’s a lifestyle that he could surely get used to.
