Darryl Monroe inks deal with Boulazac
July 25, 2011 – Pro Partner’s Darryl Monroe (George Mason ’09) has signed for the 2011-2012 season with Boulazac Basket Dordogne of the French ProB. The Virginia Beach, VA native is coming off an impressive campaign for SO Maritime Boulogne averaging 12.8ppg, 7.8rpg, 2.3apg, 1.5spg, and FG: 60.0% – he ranked in the top 5 in ProB in rebounding and field-goal percentage. Darryl was a key contributor in an unexpected run by a young Boulogne club to the league semi-finals, including an upset of the highly-touted SPO Rouen Basket. In the Rouen series, Monroe had double-doubles of 24 pts/10 reb and 15 pts/11 reb to lead the team to its victories.
Prior to coming to France, Darryl was a 2009-10 All-Dutch Eredivisie and All-Star Game selection for Aris Friesland Leeuwarden in Holland. He ranked 3rd in the league in scoring at 16.9 ppg to go with 7.6 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.6 spg and a 55.8 FG%.
“For a man with his size and strength, Darryl has a very unique skill set that attracted Boulazac. He’s a presence inside as a scorer and rebounder, but also an impressive passer with good hands, footwork and feel for the game”, said Pro Partner’s Jim Buckley. “We appreciate all of the hard work that our French partner Francois Lamy (First Step Agency) put in to help get the deal done. This opportunity with Boulazac marks another major step forward in Darryl’s career and we’re looking forward to watching him continue to develop into of the top big men in Europe at any level.”
