Courtney Sims Drafted #1 Overall in KBL Draft
July 29, 2012 – Pro Partner’s Courtney Sims was selected first overall by KCC Egis in the 2012 Korean Basketball League draft. The order of picks is determined by a lottery (as in the NBA) and KCC overcame just 1.5% odds in the draft lottery to win the top pick. The team finished 31-23 and finished fourth in the KBL during the 2011-2012 season but lost in the first round of the playoffs.
Sims played last season in Latvia with VEF Riga where he competed in Euroleague qualifying, Eurocup, VTB United League, as well as domestically. He averaged 24 points and 8 rebounds in Latvia in just 24 minutes per game. In Eurocup, he averaged 9 points and 5 rebounds, and 14 points and 7 rebounds in VTB League play.
Sims has had three different stints in the NBA throughout his career with the Pacers, Suns, and Knicks, and has played internationally in Russia, Puerto Rico, Belgium, and China. He was MVP of the D-League with the Iowa Energy in 2009.
“Courtney has proven throughout his career that he is an elite big man at the international level. He was the best player on the court during the KBL workouts and KCC rewarded him by making him the top pick. We think this is going to be a great opportunity for Courtney” said Pro Partner’s Jim Buckley.
