Jamar Diggs inks deal in Riga
Feburary 15, 2012 – Pro Partner Sports is pleased to announce that Jamar Diggs has signed a deal to join BK Barons Kvartals Riga in Latvia’s top league, the LBL, for the remainder of the season. The club based in Latvia’s capital is currently tied at the top of the domestic standings. Barons also competes in the highly-regarded Baltic League internationally against clubs from Lithuania and Estonia where they sit at 4-0 atop Group E. Diggs will step in to the PG spot and bolster the roster for the stretch run and playoffs.
Diggs arrived on a flight into Latvia yesterday from Cyprus where he made a name for himself playing in Division A for Omonia, averaging 14.8ppg, 7.1rpg, 4.9apg, and 1.9spg – top 10 in the league in all four categories. In Riga, he’ll join fellow Minnesota native Tyler Cain, a 2010 alum of South Dakota and a veteran now in his third season in the LBL.
Preliminary reports indicate that the clearance and license have been settled by the Latvian Federation and Jamar will be on the court for tomorrow’s matchup with 5th-ranked Jelgava (10-10).
Pro Partner’s Jim Buckley said of the signing, “We’re excited about this new opportunity for Jamar to play both in the Latvian playoffs and the Baltic League. International exposure is the best thing for him. He’s a special kind of kid with a unique game and I’m glad the world is finally going to see what he’s capable of.”
