Northeastern’s Jonathan Lee signs in Austria
July 6, 2013 – Pro Partner Sports Management is pleased to announce that Northeastern rookie guard Jonathan Lee has signed his first professional contract with the Gmunden Swans in Austria’s top league.
The historic club in Gmunden is rooted in a rich tradition of success, having won league championships 7 of the past 11 seasons including back-to-back championships in 2011 and 2012. In fact, another New England product – Sharaud Curry of Providence College – was at the helm for the Swans during their last title run in 2012 and went on that summer to sign in the German BBL. Lee will step in as the club’s first rookie PG in a decade to take the starting role and try to restore the club to dominance after a disappointing 6th place finish last year.
As a senior at Northeastern, Lee averaged 13.8ppg, 4.4rpg, 4.0apg, and 1.8spg on his way to an All-CAA selection. He led the Huskies to a CAA regular-season championship and an NIT berth. Lee was also named the prestigious Dean Ehlers Leadership Award winner and the NU Senior Class Award winner this spring. In June, the Flint, Michigan native had two pre-draft workouts for the Boston Celtics where he turned heads by breaking fellow NU alum Matt Janning’s all-time record in the infamous 3-minute sprint.
“This is a great first step for Jon in his career,” said Pro Partner’s Jim Buckley of the signing, “The opportunity to come in as a rookie and lead a club with the tradition and history of Gmunden is an experience you can’t replace. I know that fanbase is very passionate about their team and they will embrace Jon with open arms when they see what he brings to the organization on and off the court
