Diggs leads APOEL to 2OT win in Game 1 of Finals
March 6, 2014 – Pro Partner client Jamar Diggs stole the show in Game 1 of the Cypriot League finals with a 30 point and 12 rebound performance in APOEL’s double-OT win over AEK. Diggs’ breakout night came at the most critical of times as the club entered the championship series with three other starters (Glyniadakis, Poole, and Kremen) battling injuries.
Game 1 between the two heavyweight clubs was a battle with high-intensity on both sides. AEK’s Charron Fisher and Tyler Laser both fouled out at the beginning of the first overtime – a turning point in the match. AEK was undermanned and hung tight, but with just fifty-one seconds to go at the end of the second overtime, Diggs hit his second three-pointer to break the tie and give APOEL the lead. After a controversial traveling call against AEK’s Matt Bauscher, Vassilis Kounas knocked down two clutch free throws to close the door on Game 1.
Diggs’ 30 points led APOEL. Lazar Radosavljevic added 18 and 7 rebounds and Thaddeus McFadden chipped in with 17. The clubs will return to the floor for Game 2 on Saturday.
